About National Service Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunity to the students for the service of nationThe sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service.

 

History about OUR INSTITUTE NSS  :–

The National Service Scheme (N.S.S) is a scheme run by Government of India and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. It provides opportunity to the students for the service of society, community and nation.

N.S.S started at Higher Education level in 1969 and in the same year our college introduced and implemented N.S.S with a view to serving the society. Dr. P. I. Patel took the responsibility of N.S.S programme officer who later on became the principal of the college. He served as a programme officer for 17 years. After him, Prof. K. K. Patel, Prof. V. S. Patel, Prof. P. K. Patel, Dr. D. H. Goswami, Prof. V. J. Vaidh, Prof. J. K. Joshi, Prof. Kamal Dave, Prof. V. G. Patel, Prof. K. C. Mevada etc took the responsibility as a programme officer and diligently offered service for N.S.S. In the beginning we were allotted 1 unit of 50 students which increased to 3 units with 150 students. At present 100 students have joined in N.S.S and offering their service to the awareness of the people of the society. Following is given the details of program officers and annual N.S.S. camps from 2005.

The NSS Badge Proud to Serve the Nation:

All the youth volunteers who opt to serve the nation through the NSS led community service wear the NSS badge with pride and a sense of responsibility towards helping needy.

The Konark wheel in the NSS badge having 8 bars signifies the 24 hours of a the day, reminding the wearer to be ready for the service of the nation round the clock i.e. for 24 hours.Red colour in the badge signifies energy and spirit displayed by the NSS volunteers.

The Blue colour signifies the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind. 

The objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) :

 

  1. Understand the community in which they work.
  2. Understand themselves in relation to their community.
  3. Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving.
  4. Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.

5.Utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.

  1. Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities.
  2. Gain skills in mobilising community participation.
  3. Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.
  4. Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and
  5. Practise national integration and social harmony

 

Benefits of Being a NSS Volunteer:

An NSS volunteer who takes part in the community service programme would either be a college level or a senior secondary level student. Being an active member these student volunteers would have the exposure and experience to be the following:

—  an accomplished social leader

—  an efficient administrator

—  a person who understands human nature
